Hey, where did everybody go on my block? I’m just a high testosterone overactive beer sneaking teenager. They’re all down the street in my friend’s basement jamming. Didn’t know nothin’ about music but I wanted in. Desperately needing to have fun with my buddies I headed out in search of a cheap guitar. Picked up a warped, decrepit Guild Madera acoustic for $35. Couldn’t tune it without a pair of pliers. I headed straight to the jamming basement and started making noise.
It was ugly, but I loved it.
Took some lessons from a local teach. He saved me from imitating Pete Townsend…the guitar smashing part. Showed me how to strum and fingerpick. What a revelation. First song I ever learned was “Bad Bad Leroy Brown”. My first finger picking song was “Freight Train”.
So I stayed with the lessons, became a recluse and hibernated in the attic of my house. Workin’ it until my fingers blistered and pealed. Had my mom slide me three meals a day under the door. My buddies in the basement gave up, went on to whatever, and I sought out some fellow musicians.
Started my first band called “Echoes”. Little 5-piece rock and blues throw-together. Played some local gigs, and after a year, and my lead female singer cheating on me, we disbanded.
Fast forward and lots of gigs and playing later, I’m more passionate about the guitar than ever. It’s become another appendage. I love to constantly expand my repertoire. The fun of choosing to play a cool blues tune or a sweet acoustic melody. The guitar gets me through the best and worst of days… Did I mention I love my guitars!
No Relation Band is the first serious music project I’ve ever had the pleasure to put together. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to play and share my passion with four very talented and gifted musicians.
